| Voters in
Montgomery County, as well as voters in several
neighboring counties, will be voting on new electronic
voting machines in the November General Election. The
machines in Montgomery County, provided by Diebold,
have been used in elections in Georgia and Maryland.
For the Ohio elections, a printer has been added to
provide a paper record in case there is ever a need
for a recount.
The process for the
voter is not much different than it was in past
elections. The Voter:
- Stops at the table
and signs in with a poll worker, as in the past.
- Is given a card
about the size of a credit card, instead of the
paper ballot.
- Inserts the card
into the voting machine. (The screen will display
with instructions)
- Changes the
options for display size and resolution, if
desired.
- Selects the Next
button, and the first page of the ballot displays.
- Simply touches the
screen to select a candidate. (The Next and Back
buttons are used to maneuver through the ballot)
- Reviews the
summary screen after finishing all selections.
- Selects Print (A
paper copy of the vote is recorded)
- Selects Cast Vote
(Records the electronic ballot)
- Returns the card
to the poll worker and receives an ‘I voted
today’ sticker!
The Montgomery County
Board of Elections (BOE) will be mailing a pamphlet to
every registered voter in the County. The pamphlet
illustrates how the machine is used. You can visit the
BOE Web site (www.mcboe.org)
and download a video showing the voting machine in
use. The BOE will also be giving live
demonstration of the voting machine at some of the
Candidates Forums. Check the listing of forums on this
web site. |
League
volunteers will be on duty
to answer voter’s questions
beginning Monday, October 30
through Election Day, Nov. 7
between the hours of
9 a.m. and 3 p.m., weekdays.
