On October 8, 2007, The
League of Women Voters of Greater Dayton Area will host
a public forum on Media Literacy in Politics featuring
speaker Dr. John Splaine, noted expert
on media’s role in politics and policy
development.
The event, which is free
and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. in Sinclair
Community College’s Building 13, Room 131. Dr. Splaine
will talk about how media has changed politics and
provide tips for critically analyzing media messages so
that voters can detect propaganda, bias and truth in
messages leading up to the election.
About Dr. Splaine
Dr. Splaine is Associate Professor Emeritus of the
Education Policy and Leadership program at the
University of Maryland’s College of Education, a
Professor Emeritus of Boston College and C-SPAN
consultant. Dr. Splaine’s interests include the
effects of television on young people, the use of media
in teaching, politics and policy development relative to
educational technology and humanistic aspects of
educational media. He is also a published author of
several books and articles on the topic of Media
Literacy and politics, including The Road to the
White House Since Television and Politics:
Communicating a Message. |
